ABOUT

Forza Meats is a full-service butcher shop and Italian market located in the heart of downtown Glenview, Illinois. We offer premium cuts of all-natural, pasture-raised beef, pork, poultry and lamb, much of which we turn into an array of house-made sausages. Our flagship variety is the renowned Minelli family recipe Italian sausage–the finest this side of the Atlantic Ocean.

In addition to butchery services we also offer fresh-made sandwiches, salads and deli sides, as well as a rotating cast of take-and-bake entrees, pizzas and a wide selection of imported and domestic Italian specialty items. We provide catering services for parties of virtually any size, with a focus on old world Italian recipes, but the range to craft a menu to your taste.

ORIGINS

The concept is the brainchild of Glenview natives and lifelong friends Mario Minelli and Tyler Pontarelli. Having discussed the idea of going into business together for years, the two are bringing their idea for an old-school Italian meat market updated for the 21st century to life as part of the effort to invigorate Glenview’s historic business district on Glenview Road. Mario and Tyler are excited to establish Forza Meats in their hometown and build a recognizable brand that will be a fixture in Glenview and beyond for decades to come.

As for the shop’s name, “Forza” is an Italian word that literally means “strength,” or “power” or “force.” But Italians often use it as a catch-all euphemism for pride, as in one’s heritage, or preferred sports team, etc. If you were rooting for the Italian national soccer team, for example, you might exclaim “Forza Italia!” after a big goal. Given that pride in our shared Italian heritage is one of the bonds in our lifelong friendship, we thought it a fitting symbol for our partnership as well.

OUR TEAM

Mario Minelli

Mario brings three generations worth of experience in the butcher business to Forza Meats, having learned the trade from his father John at two different locations anchoring the corner of Milwaukee and Oakton in Niles. He recently added restaurateur to his resume, opening The Chop Shop in Wicker Park in 2013 to much fanfare.

Mario is eager to return to his roots and provide the residents of the North Shore with the premium product and customer service that has been his family’s hallmark for decades. He’s looking forward to renewing acquaintances with his hometown and getting to know all the new faces that have chosen to call Glenview home as well.

Tyler Pontarelli

Forza Meats is Tyler’s first foray into the food and beverage business after a fourteen year career in finance. A passion for food and an Italian heritage that shares the same are the driving forces behind entrance into the industry, along with an aspiration to make downtown Glenview a destination for residents and visitors alike.

Tyler is both a third generation Glenview resident and patron of Minelli family businesses. Many years of being fed by the Minelli family, along with the overwhelming response from introducing others to their Italian “sauseege,” spurred his aspiration to amplify the reach of Mario’s craft to a wider audience.

Jimmy Shay

Fifteen years ago Jimmy got a job cutting meat in a local family butcher shop where his mom cooked lasagna. After cutting his teeth he went on to hone his skills in whole animal butchery, sausage-making, and curing alongside some of the most recognizable names in Chicago’s meat industry.

Jimmy’s commitment to family, community and quality are what led him back to his roots to join a Forza Meats team that shares his passion. His knowledge of each and every cut that passes through Forza’s doors, coupled with his experience in kitchens of all shapes and sizes, will ensure our customers get just what they need to feed hungry families for decades to come.
